Written and published by Ben E. King in 1961, it became an instant classic. But its not because its complicated quite the opposite. Its simple, honest and straight from the heart. It says what we all hope to hear from someone: Youre not alone.
If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall these are strong images. But the message is as clear as the melody is warm: When everything shakes and threatens to fall apart, we only need one thing. Someone to stand by our side.
This song has been in movies, played at weddings and funerals in joy and in sorrow. And it still hits home. Maybe because it reminds us of something we often forget: That strength isnt always standing alone. Sometimes its standing together.
